Zambia 200 kW / 430 kWh Mining Camp Solar-Diesel-BESS Microgrid
Summary: Two standard solar-diesel-BESS all-in-one units in parallel integrate PCS, MPPT and transfer switches to power a Zambian mining camp with significantly lower diesel use.
Located at a Zambian mining camp, this project deploys two standard solar-diesel-BESS all-in-one units in parallel. Each unit integrates one PCS, one MPPT and one PCM grid-tied/off-grid transfer switch, jointly powering the camp and realizing PV-storage-diesel complementary operation.
Project Background
The camp is far from the main grid and previously relied on diesel generators, with high fuel logistics costs, noise and emissions. The customer wanted PV and storage to cut diesel consumption while maintaining power during outages. The site also has a large share of single-phase loads, challenging the PCS loading capability.
System Configuration
- 2 × 125 kW PCS units
- 2 × 120 kW MPPT units
- 2 × 170 kW grid-tied/off-grid transfer switches
- Two solar-diesel-BESS all-in-one units in parallel
Project Solution

整套系统采用中腾数能构网型 PCS 与 MPPT 直流耦合技术,具备毫秒级并离网切换、一簇一管理、SOC 主动均衡与高防护等级等能力,可根据现场条件灵活扩展功率与容量。

Operation Results
- Fast off-grid switchover during grid outages keeps the camp powered
- Diesel generator auto-starts when SOC falls below setpoint to supply loads and recharge battery
- Built-in active SOC balancing equalizes two battery paths
- Optimized control algorithms improve single-phase load capacity and site stability
