Summary: Eighteen 350 kW grid-forming PCS units are paralleled without inter-unit communication to create six 1.05 MW units, powering a Maldivian island resort with high reliability.

Located at a Maldivian island resort, this project uses eighteen 350 kW grid-forming PCS units to build a 6.3 MW island microgrid. Three PCS units form one 1.05 MW unit, and six such units connect their AC outputs in parallel to form the grid without inter-unit communication. Diesel generators connect directly and can start/stop at any time while the PCS maintains voltage and frequency support.

Project Background

Island resorts are far from mainland grids and traditionally rely on diesel generators with high fuel logistics costs and environmental impact. The customer wanted a PV+storage grid-forming microgrid to drastically cut diesel consumption while guaranteeing that any single device failure would not affect overall power supply, meeting the strict quality and reliability demands of a luxury resort.

System Configuration

  • 18 × 350 kW grid-forming PCS units
  • 3 PCS units per 1.05 MW unit, 6 units total
  • Six units paralleled at the AC output without communication
  • Diesel generator directly connected, start/stop on demand
  • 6 × 50 kW PV inverters on the AC bus

Project Solution

Project Solution
System topology: 18 PCS units form six grid-forming groups paralleled on the AC bus. PV inverters and diesel generators connect to the AC bus; PCS units autonomously maintain voltage and frequency, so any unit can drop without affecting the system.

整套系统采用中腾数能构网型 PCS 与 MPPT 直流耦合技术,具备毫秒级并离网切换、一簇一管理、SOC 主动均衡与高防护等级等能力,可根据现场条件灵活扩展功率与容量。

Operation Results

  • Eighteen grid-forming PCS units output 6.3 MW for the whole island
  • Stable parallel operation without inter-unit communication simplifies deployment and maintenance
  • Diesel generator can start or stop at any time; PCS maintains system operation without mode switching
  • Any single device failure or withdrawal does not affect normal system operation
